Ora Dodson

Ora Dodson of Conicville was a teacher, gardener, and community member.

Born in 1902, she began teaching in one room schools at the age of 18 after graduating from what is now JMU. She remembered seeing her first airplane in 1920 and the excitement it caused in her classroom.

She briefly left teaching after marring Jay Paul Dodson. They had five children. She returned to teaching in 1950.

After retiring she opened a popular greenhouse at her home. Ora also served as a member of the Conicville Homemakers Club and Conicville UCC Church. She died in 1997.
