Title
Daisy Lee (Mitchell) Robinson
Subject
Robinson, Daisy Lee (Mitchell) (1884-1954)
Description
Portrait of Daisy Lee (Mitchell) Robinson in her middle years wearing her hair back and glasses.
Daisy was one of twelve children born to John Newton (1854-1929) and Ida Belle (Palmer) (1861-1940) Mitchell. She grew up near Waterlick, in the Forks District of Warren County.
She married Marcus Richardson Robinson (1884-1963) in Front Royal in 1904. He was a laborer, the son of Jacob and Elizabeth C. Robinson. The couple began their marriage in the Strasburg area where, in 1910, Marcus worked at a lime plant. They had a 3-year old son, Marvin, by then.
Ten years later, they had moved back to the Forks area in Warren County where Marcus farmed and Daisy raised their five children – Marvin, Allen, Virgil, Lucille, and Kenneth – over the next few decades.
The 1950 census found the couple living with Marcus’ brother, Walter, on his farm (still in Forks). Marcus worked at a rayon textile manufacturer as a “double deck helper”. Their son, Alvin, and his young family, lived next door.
Daisy lived in Waterlick, Warren County, when she died, and is buried in Riverview Cemetery in Strasburg.
