Portrait photograph of young John "Jack" Benchoff in his Massanutten Military Academy (MMA) uniform.

Jack was the son of Katharine (Hottel) and Guy Anderson Benchoff.

He graduated from Massanutten Military Academy, attended Emory & Henry College, and received his professional civil engineering degree from Rutgers University.

Jack was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy on the USS Tangier (AV-8) in the Pacific.

Jack applied his engineering skills around the world, working in Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Nigeria, and Peru, among other countries.

He married Carole "Posie" (Risdon) Benchoff in Lagos, Nigeria, in 1966. The couple lived in Georgia and New Jersey before settling in Posie's hometown of Warrenton, Virginia.
