Mark served in the 136th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army during WWII. He worked as a truck driver at the time of his marriage.
He married Sadie Belle (Baker) Copp in 1938. Sadie had been married before and had four children.
A couple of years later, 1940 census found Mark and Sadie living together in the Stonewall District of Shenandoah County.
