Description
Photograph of Phyllis Long Hughes as a young woman. She is standing in the studio and wearing a marching band uniform.
Phyllis was a lifelong resident of Mt. Jackson. Her parents were Homer Allen (1886-1968) and Margaret Alice (Barton) (1887-1970) Long. She had many siblings.
In 1946 she married Noah Hughes (1909-1997), originally from North Carolina. By then she already had a young son, Robert from a previous marriage to Irvin Kern Fravel of Mt. Jackson.
The 1950 census noted that the family lived in the Lee District of Shenandoah County. Noah was the manager of a poultry farm and his stepson, Robert Hughes, was 7 years old. Phyllis did not work.
Both Phyllis and Noah are buried together in Mt. Jackson.
