Margaret was born to Mark Welsh Magruder and Lilia Myrtle Riddleberger. She grew up in Woodstock where her father was an agent in the Fire Insurance business. The 1910 census found the family living on Main Street, in a home that Margaret’s parents owned free and clear (no mortgage).
Margaret never married and worked as a schoolteacher in the Woodstock for many years. When she died, she was listed as a retired teacher. She is buried in Massanutten Cemetery.
