Description

Laymon Franklin Mowery as a baby propped against pillows on a chair.

Laymon was born in Woodstock, the son of Gaylen Franklin Mowery (1921-1990) and Velma Catherine (Stepp) Mowery-Painter.

He graduated from Central High School in 1966 and served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam.

In 1970, he married Linda Darlene Ryman (1953- ) from Mt. Jackson. That marriage did not last and the couple divorced in 1974, the same year Laymon resigned from the Mt. Jackson Police force.

In 1976, he married for the second time to Linda Sue (Richard) Spiggle, a woman born in West Virginia. By then, Laymon lived in the Staunton area, where he stayed for the rest of his life. His marriage to Linda (Richard) Spiggle ended in 1997.

When he died in Fishersville, his obituary noted that his surviving wife was Susan (Moyer) Mowery. Two sons were mentioned as well: Christopher Wayne and William Franklin Mowery.

The name, “Gaylen Mowery”, is written on the glass plate of this image.
