Dorothy was born in Woodstock to Austin Ray and Viola Sylvia (Fravel) Hottel.
She married Richard Franklin Burkett (1952-1980) and the couple had a daughter, Susan (Burkett) Holsinger.
Dorothy retired from the Shenandoah Valley Electric Cooperative (SVEC) in Mt. Jackson in July 1991. She was also a volunteer at the Mt. Jackson Community Library and had been a member of the Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church.
