Photograph of Gladys Evangeline (Hottel) Fravel as a girl.

Gladys was the daughter of John Franklin (1868-1941), a farmer, and Cora Virginia (Wisman) Hottel (1873-1959).

She married John David Fravel (1887-1950) in Woodstock in June 1921. He was, the son of Joseph (1842-1909) and Catherine Victoria (Hottel) (1847-1892) Fravel.

In the 1930, 1940, and 1950 censuses, the couple lived with her parents in Woodstock. Her husband started out as a mechanic in his own shop, then was a repair mechanic in an Antiques shop, and, finally, listed as a carpenter in a factory.

The Fravel family owned an antique/hardware store in Woodstock on Church Street just past the corner of Church and Court Street. As of 2024, the building is still standing.

Gladys and her husband had two daughters, Dorothy E. and Deanna M. Fravel.
