Born in Staunton, Virginia, Phyllis' parents were Raleigh "Roy" Phillip Trimble, a barber in Woodstock, and Carrie (Hayes) Trimble. She had at least two younger sisters.
Phyllis married John Thomas "Tom" Morris, Sr. in Calhoun County, Alabama, in May 1944.
Tom was born in Washington D.C., the son of John C. and Norma (Bradshaw) Morris. Phyllis was living in Woodstock at the time they married. Tom was a soldier stationed at Ft. McClellan, Alabama.
The couple lived in Falls Church, Fairfax County, for most of their married years together. Tom worked as a Safeway Store Manager.
The couple had one daughter together. Tommie Sue Morris was born in Woodstock, grew up in Falls Church, and eventually became a teacher. She married Samuel A. Kittrell in June 1968.
