He served in Bainbridge, Maryland, Norfolk, Virginia, and in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He also served aboard the USS YMS 158 and the USS YMS 444.
George was born in Atlantic City, New Jersey, on January 31, 1927. He was working for Charles H. Tomkins in Washington D.C. as a carpenter when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in February 1944.
Going forward, his preference was to return to his home in Pugh's Run near Woodstock, finish high school, and obtain additional carpentry training.
