The train is identified as the one which carried ore and other materials along the narrow-gauge railroad connecting Liberty Iron Furnace with Edinburg Virginia. This line was commonly called the “Dinky Railroad” among locals.
This image was most likely taken during an April 18, 1904 excursion to the furnace sponsored by the Monarch Iron Company who had recently purchased the furnace.
