John was the son of David Monroe and Harriett Susan (Cooper) Wilkins. He was a farmer for most of his life.
Margaret was the daughter of Nevin Kline and Lula Mae (Wisman) Fravel. She worked for the Shenandoah Telephone Company for 28 years before she retired.
The couple married in 1940 and raised two sons: John Robert Wilkins, Jr. and Kline Monroe Wilkins.
