Julia was a music teacher in Shenandoah County for many years, teaching at various public schools. She also taught adult piano classes, directed music at Camp Stawderman, Woodstock Community Bible School, Woodstock United Church of Christ, and the Edinburg Old Time Festival.

She originally married Robert Danley and later divorced. She then married Howard Lambert.

Julia had three daughters Patricia Snarr, Mary Danley, and Julianna Danley Bankert.
