Margie was born in Tiffin, Seneca County, Ohio, daughter of the late Thomas Alvin Miller (Uncle Tom of Uncle Tom's Park) and Lizzie (Funkhouser) Miller.
She married Arnold Hawkins in 1940. Their marriage lasted seven years.
In January 1951, she married her second husband, Ladelle Ferris Funkhouser.
