Description

This is a wedding photograph of Alfred Lavinder and Dorothy Lantz.

Born in Roanoke, Al was the son of Wiley W. and Annie L. Lavinder. He served in the US Army, 29th Infantry Division as a Sergeant during WWll.

On D-Day, June 6,1944, Al landed on Omaha Beach, several days later he would be wounded and was awarded the Purple Heart. He then went to work at Ft. Meade as a Food Supply Supervisor, retiring after 41 years of service.

Born in Edinburg, Dorothy was the daughter of Edward and Della (Pence) Lantz. She was the sister of Louise (Lantz) Luttrell.

Married in the mid-1950s, the couple spent 62 years together before Al died. Both are buried in Glen Burnie, Maryland, where they spent much of their married lives together.
