Carl Washington Fleming and his wife, Madeline (Long) Fleming shown standing together in front of a porch.
Carl was the son of George W. and Bertie A. (Hawkins) Fleming. Madelyn was the daughter of Homer Allen Long, Sr. and Margaret Alice (Barton) Long.
They married in 1928 in Woodstock and lived for most of their married lives in rural Mount Jackson, where Carl farmed. Madeline worked for Bowman's Apple Products Company, inc. for 18 years.
Together, they had three children: Carl Washington, Jr., Thomas “Tom” R. and Helen L. Fleming.
Tragically, Carl died as the result of a farm accident. He got caught in a pulley and was run over by a tractor. It severed his spinal cord and broke bones. His wife survived him by more than three decades.
They are buried together in Mount Jackson.
