Gladys was the daughter of Walter R. and Lillie E. (Rau) Good. She lived in Strasburg when she married William Machir Ellis (1911-1974) in 1934.

Her husband was the son of William Henry and Bessie E. (Machir) Ellis and was also from Strasburg. He had served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army. The 1940 and 1950 censuses found the family living on Route 11 in the Johnston District where William farmed.

The couple had two children, Walter William and Alma Ellis.

Some time after 1950, Gladys and her husband divorced. She lived on S. Church Street in Woodstock when she died. Her daughter, Alma, was the informant.
