Description

Linden Bower Coffman wearing his U.S. Army Air Corps uniform and standing beside his first wife, Alese Selma (Hoffman) Coffman.

Linden Bower Coffman was born in Mt. Airy, Va., a son of Clinton and Virgie (Bowers) Coffman.

Linden was a 1941 graduate of Woodstock High School. During WWII, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps, where he received the Purple Heart. During his life, he worked as a meat cutter for Tom Eagle's Slaughterhouse, clerked in the F&G Supermarket in Woodstock, and was a partner in the Woodstock Pool Hall. He retired from the Woodstock Post Office after 25 years of service.

His first wife was Alese Selma Hoffman, the daughter of Harry Cecil (1902-1964) and Golda E. (Ritenour) (1904-1927) Hoffman.

The couple had three children together -- Sandra S., Ronald Franklin, and Holly -- before she died of breast cancer.

Linden married again and spent 28 years with his second wife, Nancy, before he, too, reached the end of his life.
