Description

Irene (Saum) Wisman seated on a bench and looking at her youngest son, Calvin Saum Wisman, a toddler, who is standing beside her.

Irene was the daughter of Daniel T. and Jennie Saum. She was the second wife of Walter C. Wisman. The couple had three children and lived in Woodstock.

Calvin S. Wisman graduated from Woodstock High School then received his college degree in agricultural education from Virginia Tech, class of 1940.

In June of 1940, he volunteered for active duty in the U.S. Army and served until he retired as a Colonel in 1964. Following his Army retirement, he worked for 15 years in the civil service, mostly as a Security Manager at Fort Monroe in Hampton, Virginia.

Calvin’s wife was Anne Elizabeth (Slater) Wisman (1916-2015). She was born in King William County, Virginia, and was widowed when she married Calvin in 1952.

The name, "Wisman", is written on the glass plate of this image.
