Sue was the daughter of John Roland and Bessie Caroline (Seal) Hollingsworth.
In 1962, she married Robert A. Grant in Emanuel Lutheran Church in Woodstock. The couple had a son and a daughter together. The marriage did not last.
Sue was a teacher in the Warren County Middle School and a graduate of VPI (now called Virginia Tech).
