Viola (Polk) Moomaw was born in Conicville, one of at least nine children of Noah Frederick (1977-1945) and Martha Susan (Miller) (1880-1957) Polk. She was a member of the St. Jacob Lutheran Church.

Harry was born in Maurertown to Carl R. and Edith V (Zeigler) Taylor. In 1940, the family lived in Toms Brook where Harry’s father worked in a lime kiln. He had a younger sister, Thelma.
