Two separate portrait photographs showing Kay (Pool) Whetzel from Mount Jackson.
Her parents were John Edward and Ida Rose (Green) Pool. In the 1950 census, she appeared as a 1-year old, the youngest of six children. The family lived in Mount Jackson and her father worked as a construction supervisor in the road and bridge building business.
She graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School in Quicksburg, Virginia.
Her first husband was George Kembrough Payne. They married on August 8, 1966 in Hagerstown, Maryland, and divorced a few years later, in 1971. At that time, Kay worked as a seamstress for Aileen Inc.
She married again on April 6, 1974, to Charles Eugene Whetzel, Jr. (born in 1950). It was a second marriage for both of them and they lived in Mount Jackson until 1984, when their marriage ended.
The image on the left has a mark at the top where the photographer noted which of the two images he planned to print.
